Language of the Land Camp 2026

From July 13–17, 2026, we gathered for the 12th annual Language of the Land Native American Youth Camp.

Each year, this camp creates an opportunity for local Native American youth to reconnect with the land, strengthen their relationship with one another, and revitalize their kinship with the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Throughout the week, participants took part in awareness games, plant medicine teachings, fire making, swimming, hiking, storytelling, and expressions of gratitude.

For the fourth year, the children received a special treat: spending time on a boat, playing in the water, and tubing. This recreational time has become one of the highlights of their summer, filled with laughter, courage, and joyful memories.

There is no fee for Native American youth to attend the camp. Helpers Mentoring Society remains dedicated to providing nature-based, cultural immersion, and educational opportunities that support connection, belonging, and the continuation of relationship with the land.

We are deeply grateful to the many people around the world whose generosity makes this gathering possible. Your support helps create meaningful experiences that these young people can carry with them long after camp has ended.
